What a Skills Session Is

A focused hour built around what this player needs right now — not a generic group clinic where your skater takes a handful of reps and waits in line for the rest.

Every session pairs real on-ice work with film review, coached personally by John. Eleven-plus years on the ice — from learn-to-play beginners through NCAA D1 and D3 — means whatever your player's level, he's coached someone exactly there and knows the next step to take.

11+ years coaching every level — U10s to NCAA D1.

What a Session Looks Like

Every session starts the same way — by finding what actually matters for your player — and points toward what comes next.

1

We Find the Gap

Bring a goal, or none at all. John assesses your player on the ice and on film, then pinpoints the one or two things actually holding them back — not a laundry list, the real bottleneck.

2

You Leave With a Plan

Targeted reps in the session, plus specific drills mapped to your player's type to take home. Your skater walks off the ice knowing exactly what to work on — and why it matters.

3

Go All-In When You're Ready

When one session isn't enough, it becomes the on-ramp to the 12-Week Program — a full custom build with film, on-ice sessions, and progress reviews.

Start with a session. Build it into a plan.

What We Work On

The four pillars every complete player is built on. Where we start depends on what your player needs most.

⛸️

Skating & Edges

The foundation of everything else. Real edge control, explosive starts, and the balance that lets the rest of the game open up.

🏒

Puck Skills & Finishing

Handling under pressure, protecting the puck, and a release that buries the chances your player is already creating.

🧠

Hockey IQ & Position Play

Reading the play, knowing where to be, and making the right decision a half-second faster than everyone else on the ice.

🔥

Compete & Confidence

The habits and mindset that separate players who fade from players who take over — battling, recovering, and trusting their game.

Every session is shaped by your player type — a Finisher and an Exit Artist don't train the same hour.

Not Sure What to Work On? Start With Your Type.

The Player Types Quiz takes a few minutes and gives you a starting point — and your first session a head start.

Parent Questions, Answered

U10 and up, all the way through college, at any level. Whether your player is a beginner finding their edges or skating AAA, sessions are built around exactly where they are right now.
1-on-1 gives your player the full hour of attention and is best for fixing something specific. Small group (2–4 skaters) lowers the cost per skater and adds a little competition — great for teammates or linemates working on the same things. Not sure? Text Coach John and he'll point you the right way.
No. Start with one session — no commitment. The 12-Week Program is there when you decide your player is ready for the full build, but plenty of families come in for a single session to sharpen one part of the game.
Yes. John has a goalie-coaching background, so netminders get real position-specific work — not an afterthought tacked onto a skater session.
Your player brings their own gear. Sessions run at rinks along the Front Range of Colorado, and you pay your own ice fee at the rink. Text Coach John your area and he'll line up the closest available ice.
Text or call (303) 909-2656. Tell John your player's availability and he'll send back the week's open ice times so you can lock one in.
